Mansfield Ave
Mansfield Ave
I promised that kid on Mansfield Ave,
That kid who didn’t care about fame or glory,
Just the power of an honest story,
The alchemy of when the right word follows the last,
And how to build a future out of your past.
So give me another want I can’t have,
Because of that promise I made on Mansfield Ave.
The promise to put the pen to page,
To nurse a passion that blossoms to rage,
And never be trapped in a suburban cage.
Give me one more lost note,
one more errant key,
Another clever way to say,
I’m empty.
Then drop the ball and count down from ten,
Because tomorrow, I’ll renew that promise again.
